Simpang Jeram by-election to see three-cornered fight

MUAR: The Simpang Jeram by-election is set to be a three-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan's Nazri Abdul Rahman, Perikatan Nasional's Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.

Election Commission returning officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah said that he received and accepted the nominations of three candidates at 10.13am.

S. Jeganathan arrived at the nomination centre here at about 9.20am while Nazri and Dr Mohd Mazri arrived earlier with their group of supporters.

S. Jeganathan had previously contested the Bukit Naning seat in the 14th General Election and the Johor state election last year.

Dr Mohd Mazri was also fielded to contest the Simpang Jeram seat in GE14 but lost to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Meanwhile, engineer Nazri Abdul Rahman is contesting for the first time.
